Julia was born in Winston-Salem, NC and still calls it her hometown, even though her family moved to Richmond in 2004. She graduated from Emory University in 2007 after 4 years of track (and 1 year of cross country, woop woop). Nowadays she is a Neuroscience PhD student at Princeton University in NJ. When she is not in the lab studying brains (because who wouldn't want to do that), she is off laughing with friends, watching corny television dramas, cooking (or some would say experimenting in the kitchen), and training for marathons with her beau.
Anthony grew up in Rockville, MD. He went to high school at Gonzaga College High School in Washington, DC and graduated from Emory University in 2006 (he says he took a medical redshirt year to run track but we all know it's because the class of '05 was a nerdy bunch, plus there was a lovely lady still at Emory). He loves all sports, ESPECIALLY Notre Dame football. After spending 2 years at IBM as a Strategy & Change consultant, he has ventured into the entreprenurial world where he now owns a sports & entertainment social media agency.
Where to start, where to start?... it's only been a couple of months since we've known each other so it's a really short story to tell (of course that's obviously a joke for those of you who know us well). The first time we laid eyes on each other was in September 2003 for a 4 mile practice run with the Emory track team, and oddly enough, we haven't stopped running since! And apparently we don't have any plans to stop, since Julia decided she now wants to run marathons in all fifty states ... thanks Jules (or not)!
After a season of practicing, traveling, and competing together on the track team running the same event (the 800 meters), Julia finally admitted to herself that my dashing good looks and chivalrous charm were simply too much to resist (Anthony would love for you to believe that). The only problem for the two of us was that it was the last week of the semester ...
As serendipity would have it, Julia's family moved to Richmond in the summer of 2004, leaving us only a 2 hour car ride apart. Although not going steady just yet, we made a few trips back forth to hang out and tan by the pool together. On Sunday, August 15, I asked Julia to be my girl full time (yeah right ... Anthony was too chicken so I had to make it happen for us). We're such a traditional couple!
Though Anthony was supposed to graduate in 2005, he tore his ACL playing flag football and missed a season of track for the rehab after his surgery. He decided to stay a fifth year since he still had a year of track eligibibility left (and because he couldn't stand to leave me, although I haven't gotten him to admit that part yet). After Anthony graduated, we spent most of the next two years apart as I finished at Emory and started at Princeton, and Anthony was working as a consultant for IBM in DC. The distance was difficult (to put it mildly), but in the end, we made it work somehow. We always do.
Now that Anthony owns his own business, his work is much more flexible and he is able to spend more time in Princeton. Though we both work long hours, we fill our spare time doing the things we love - traveling, playing games, eating (a lot!), and of course running. We have become quite a team over the past six years, and we look forward to continuing our life together as husband and wife.
